    n0wae's 4x4 Series #1: Switzerland Trail

Well I've been admiring Rocket Man's off road series for some time now. He was definatly my inspiration to create my own series. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=f4d44b87-54f3-40ad-9da3-b866acfcf81b (The student bows to the master)  The idea is to make it easy for cachers to venture into the back country where navigation can be a problem for some due to 4WD roads that might not be on the maps in your GPS (or even Topo Maps). What is helpful is a guiding hand or series to overcome some of these navigation obstacles for some cachers. I hope more cachers venture off road do to these cache series and enjoy the back country. The Switzerland Trail is one of Pat's and  my favorites. We want to share the experience with you and hope to share  more of our favorite trails in the future via cache series.

Going back to Louisiana next week... turned in the busted up rental from RM series #8 already or I would definately give this one a go. I'll have to wait until I bring the BOSS home, she takes me everywhere and leaves more damage than sustains. (post pics of the beast later... left the monster and computer with the pics back in LA).

And how many miles is that round-trip, or out and back  (for a mountain bike ride or a walk)?

Looks like  a fun series. Thanks NoWae!  I guess that means you're feeling better and got released to go play?

    Re: n0wae's 4x4 Series #1: Switzerland Trail

My guess would be that  it would be around a 20 mile mountain bike ride back to your car. (Taking the return leg of H52/Gold Hill road west to H72 and then riding south downhill back to your car).

Sorry to say my heart is still in a fibrillation state. If my doctor knew what I did this weekend he would probably lock me up and throw the key away. (At least I stayed below 9,000ft per his instructions) I'm climbing the walls at home 'taking it easy' like I should. I should be getting my heart shock treatment the second week of July. If that works I can get back to a normal life without Pat worrying about me keeling over doing stuff I shouldn't be doing.

The "ne0 n0wae" series has been conquored by Team Red Rubicon plus 1 (TGT and their White Wagoneer). We all enjoyed the series and that includes doing our last finds well into the dark and having to use lights. All the coordinates were spot on. Our adventure took us down a very steep and rocky (ummm, I guess trail would be almost a stretch) path to lead us to "Option".

The whole crew had a good time with the series.  THANKS!!-a-bunch, Eric and Pat!!

You start seeing the logs and pictures come rolling in starting today. We were all pretty knackered once we made our way onto 72.

Glad you all had fun! I see you found the route I mentioned as an additional waypoint on the Option cache page. Instead of the moderate FDR221 (blue) route you took the extreme (red) route! I should have known all of  red rubicons would go that way!!!

Red Route?  Yep, that's the way we went down.  But we took the blue route back up.

I could lie and say we picked the Red Route because it was more of a challenge, but the reality was that we missed the optional cache on the way up so we headed back down Switzerland Trail looking for a trail heading over the edge down to the cache.  The Red Route was the first thing we came to and I said something like "This must be it, lets go".  Once we started down, there was no going back.  Of course we didn't bother to read the cache description or pay attention to your extra waypoint that was in our GPS.  What fun would that be?

Anyhow, I would like to say nice job on the series Eric.  We really enjoyed it, even if we did get done at 10:00 pm.

Um... N0WAE!  Does this mean we should have taken a defib with us?  You sorta forgot to mention that I should bone up on my CPR skills a couple of weekends ago!  While the snow kept us below 9000, it sounds like it was a good idea for other reasons as well.

Am looking forward to the Switzerland Trail cache.  Have a buddy with some light duty 4WD ability and he and I used to head up there now and again "back in the day" (late '80s).  Mentioned to him that new caches were showing up in that area, and while he's not got the caching bug yet, is certainly in favor of taking the trip up just to see the place again.

Of interest... his mother also got her clock "reset" earlier this year.  Many times, it does serve to get things back in sync again.

Now I see why you upgraded to the "White Wagon".  Next we need to win the lottery and buy you some RED paint!
