    GPS Units specifically for Geocaching

Looking to purchase some cheap, but good GPS units specifically for geocaching.  These will be used for our upcoming Public Lands Day Geo-Trashing event on September 27 - mark your calenders to attend!  Any suggestions from the geocaching community?

The Garmin Colorado has some functions that are built in for geocaching, but it doesn't fall into the cheap catagory.

If you're looking for a basic GPS, the Garmin eTrex Legend is a good starting GPS.  The Vista is another one to consider.

I use the Garmin 60CS (60CSx is the newer version of mine)

    See you in September!

Try craigslist... I saw a few Garmin Etrex series for $40-$50, only problem would be driving to get 'em. Or sometimes you can get lucky on other internet sites (eBay) with used GPSr handhelds, hard to find though...

http://www.gpsmagazine.com/2007/07/gpsmagazine_guide_to_geocachin.php This is a good place to review GPS units. eTrex is a good entry unit. Garmin 60C/Sx is a better workhorse, but pricey, Colorado 400t ($$$$) is great, but a 300 is less expensive if you have their mapping software to load independently. Magellan Sportrak is another intermediately priced good handheld for geocaching.

Like the others, I'd recommend the eTrex units from Garmin.  I'm sure there'd be a debate as to which is the better unit for your particular application.  I would recommend the Summit model vs. the other eTrex models for the following reasons:

    1) You don't need a ton of memory for "local" use, and the availability of an SD card slot isn't important for the same reason.  The Summit will store 500 cache locations at a time.  That should be plenty.
    2) The electronic compass really can be useful for triangulation of a location.  Learning how to use it has kept me on target many times.
