Grats on the upgrade and on the 857 .. it's the radio I use also. I have the matching ATAS on the back of my truck and it works great. Have worked Japan, Italy, and Venezuela from the truck at 100 watts.

Just got my vanity call also.. KB8PXV is now N0HIO.

Russ, KA0GYZ and my wife, Dana KB0PZO.  Parker, CO

I hold my Advanced class ticket and Dana is a Tech Plus.

Took the written exam a while back and passed, but could not get past the 20wpm.  That was before the code was abolished of course...  :)

Not too active on Ham right now.  I have a couple of VHF hand helds and a Kenwood TS-820s for HF which is in the closet collecting dust...

Recently got into geocaching (71 so far) and used to be into hot air ballooning.

Awesome!! I have an ATAS that is mounted on top of my house (don't ask - hairbrained idea) that I need to get down and onto the car. I'm a little chicken about climbing on the roof though, so there's  a really nice antenna on the roof of my house that I can't use, and I can't get down. Lucky me, huh? LOL

I guess this isnt quite a thread necro since this is the only thread in the ham radio/geocaching forum! Anyhoo...

Thanks for the QSL Corey! It was quite a treat to come out of the supermarket and see a message in my inbox on my D700!

If you guys would like to get more involved in ham radio, I would suggest getting into an emergency services group like Pikes Peak ARES (ppares.org) Their "monthly meeting" was last night and was pretty nice! I'm hoping to get more involved!

Also, It's worthy to note that I received my upgrade early last month in Woodland Park! I'm now a general! Woot!

Let's wear the mantle of Threadmancer proudly here...especially since I've got some "powa" here in these forums.

    QSO OM!
Thank you as well and you are quite welcome. Plus I'll be dusting off the APRS tracker for my Jeep(tm) soon but just a lowly Garmin V+mW TXRX+off-board mash up, here...;-)

Excellent suggestion, very dedicated and extensive group there plus I've thoroughly enjoyed my dealings with them all the way from newbie to sporadic contributor.

Yeah, I just run my old e-trex legend into my kenwood and it works out fairly well. The legend locks up on occasion and needs some attention, but for the most part it's a pretty good setup. I'm probably going to get a "hockey puck" receiver here pretty soon and do a more permanent installation.

When I'm in Colorado, I visit with the MARC, Mountain Amateur Radio Club down in Woodland Park (they have big dealings with the Pikes Peak folks). Thystle and I have come back twice now from STL for their Ham Camp-out in late August up in Lake George. That tornado that came thru up there was right down the road from us that weekend.
