Wow, quick turn-around for the article.  We met a reporter from the Denver Post last year, and it was a few weeks before it was published.

Is there an online version of the paper, or is it local distribution only?  I'd love to see it when it comes out.

Finding hidden treasures part of geocaching tradition

Good article focusing on the 'PROS' of geocaching.

I was half expecting a plug to the July event for those interested.  That'd be a pretty quick (and almost effortless) way to increase cachers in your area.Big Smile [:D]

    Article:

Many caches are buried or hidden in stumps, out of eyesight from an otherwise unsuspecting public.

Buried is a word often associated with geocaching, but not allowed per the guidelines.

Event went fair. Not to many people. I think the main event will be a hit though.

It's a start.  There aren't alot of cachers in the immediate area, but it's good to hear that some were able to make it.  I've already set aside that weekend (July 21) to make a weekend with my eldest son (a little father/son time).

When is the event to going to be listed?  We're closing in on 30 days - the sooner it get's listed the better chance people can re-arrange plans to make it out there.  Only a limited number of people check into the forums, so there's probably a bunch of cachers out there that don't know this is in the works.

What caches would you recommend for us to do whil visiting your area?

Depends on what you are driving. Just try to get them all here in town it would only take about an hour.

As it stands right now, I'll probably be running around with my itty bitty car (Focus ZX3).

If the family is with the vehicle will be larger.......

    Re: The Craig Thread

Well, the event went pretty well.  Met alot of the cachers in town, and even got to cache with a couple of them.  We had the itty bitty car with so we weren't able to get all the caches, but we did get quite a few of them.

Good job putting it all together spydershutter309 and company.  The opportunity to grow the community there is pretty big, and having events will encourage more activity out there.

Grand High Pobah and I managed to DNF a couple of caches out there.  We may need someone to hold our hand in order to find them.  Or maybe a hint? (don't tell me now - I'll forget by the time I get out there again).

From the other logs, it looks like the Bridge micro is still there, but what about Down Under?  I wonder if it's still there.  I'd have to think so with a find only a week ago (given the location), but darned if we could find it.

     Edit for spelling

Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Little Snake Field Office (LSFO) in Craig, CO is trying to get up to speed on geocaching.  BLM plans to host a CITO Event in September 2008 as part of National Public Lands Day!  Information has been posted on the BLM website with links regarding BLM's policy and interest in geocaching on public lands.  http://www.blm.gov/co/st/en/fo/lsfo.html

BLM LSFO would also like to monitor the success and increased interest of geocaching in the area, so if you place a new cache on public lands within the Little Snake Field Office, please let us know.  We would be more than happy to check an area for impacts to natural or cultural resources before placement of a cache.

Please let us know of any upcoming meetings so we can attend, and thank you for your support!  If you have any questions, or would like to help or donate in the planning/organization of the CITO event, you may post to this forum or contact us at:

Bureau of Land Management - Little Snake Field Office - Craig, Colorado - (970) 826-5000

    THANK YOU!!

We too have high hopes for a successful event!

I've added the event to the GCCO Calendar of events so we can start spreading the word now.

As the planning progresses, please keep us posted and let us (the geocaching community) know where we can help!

    Re: The Craig Thread

Thanks!  It's been awhile but the snow is finally clearing and we're locating sites for clean-up on NPLD.  Team Laxson:  Will you update the GCCO Event Calendar to indicate that our event will be held Sept. 27th?

Craig members:  Is anyone interested in helping out with locating trash sites?  We have a few in mind.  This would involve taking photos and GPS coordinates of the locations.

Also, if there are any questions, please contact Gina Robison at (970) 826-5083 or grobison@blm.gov.  Thanks for all your help!
