For those of you playing in the South Suburban and Highlands Ranch areas, I've got some free digital maps for ya'. The maps work for Garmin, Microsoft Streets & Trips, and Google Earth. I've found great value in planning geocaching trips using all three tools.
This message might be more appropriate for the "Denver Area" discussion, but I wanted to post here since these might be of more general use--and because perhaps there are other trail maps we should create or publicize. There have been several people in the geocacing community (notably IndyJpr) that have been building topo maps for free. I've decided for the Denver area to start creating trail maps to "overlay" these maps or any other map you have (or you can use them stand alone). Denver has hundreds of miles of recreation trails and until now, the only maps were paper or PDF on the various web sites of the agencies who maintained the trails. This made them less than useful for GPS users or Google Earth enthusiasts.
My first project is now complete and ready to download from my website (click this link to see some preview pictures as well). I've digitized 40 trails covering a total distance of 118.29 miles. In addition, the map contains locations of 90 trailheads, 33 public restrooms, and 49 parking areas.
Enjoy!
