How come Letterboxing does not have to comply with Boulder County Openspace rules?

I was looking online at one of the letterboxing sites and found this listing in Pella Crossing . ( Boulder County Openspace)..    I thought it is intersting that Boulder County has rules for Caching but not Letterboxing.

    Question:

So if i place a "letter box" under geocaching.com I dont need to apply for a Boulder county Permit?

Fellow geocachers, please let me know!

Good question.....hummmm....I'll forward the question to the Boulder County Ranger in charge of the geocaching stuff.  Maybe she can provide some insight to their letterboxing policy (if there is one).

And I'd have to assume if you list the letterbox cache on geocaching.com, it would have to go through the permit process.

    HOLD ON, Chris.

Let's think about this a minute before contacting BCOP.

Letterboxing isn't as widely recognized like geocaching so doesn't have the "impact".

    BTW Cachejunkies-Good question.

Do we as geocachers want to interfere with somebody else's enjoyment and bring down the rathe of the government? We will not change their minds on how caches are effected in BCOP so why open a can of worms that do not belong to us.

Just putting this out for discussion.

sounds like someone is looking for a loophole.

The question should be: "Why do geocaches have regulations and not letterboxing or summit logs?"

    where's our lobbyist?

    Thanks Z, and good point.
cameltrekor and I attended a BCOS meeting last month, and they seemed receptive to modifying their current geocaching policy.  Maybe showing them other hobbies that do 'basically' the same thing (terracaching, letterboxing, summit registers, etc.) without BCOS regulation will help them understand that it doesn't have to be regulated by them.
